First Aid at Work Re-qualification Course

Course Content

This is a 2 Day course.

Keeps the FAW certificate valid and is held over 2 days (16 hours). A current FAW certificate must be held – if your certificate has expired you must re-do the whole 3-day syllabus. A Re-qualification course can be completed no more than 3 months before or 28 days after the date of expiry on the current FAW certificate. No exceptions to this can be made. Content and examination are as for the FAW standard course.

The course content for each day is shown below.

Day 1

  • Introduction, admin (cert checks), course outline
  • Principles of First Aid
  • Vital signs
  • Accident procedure A-E, Safe Airway Position
  • A-E + SAP and score
  • Alternative casualty positions
  • Bleeding – slides and theory including treatment of shock
  • Bandaging / Bleeding casualty scenarios
  • CPR – adult. Theory including Chain of survival
  • CPR – child/drowning (if a duty of care)
  • Theory
  • Choking
  • Review. Give out quiz papers to encourage reading of manual overnight

Day 2

  • Recap day 1 by “quick quiz” method
  • Review question papers
  • Exam prep – unresponsive casualty
  • Soft tissue injuries/fracture management
  • Serious injury – head, chest, belly, pelvis, thigh
  • Conscious casualty positioning – review all common medical conditions
  • Burns
  • Exam prep – conscious bleeding casualty
  • Eye injuries / Poisons
  • First Aid legislation and first aid kits
  • Questions and final review
  • Exam starts
  • Evaluation forms and final review
