Paediatric First Aid for Child Carers
Course Content
This comprehensive 12hr Paediatric First Aid Course is a requirement for childcare practitioners who require registration with OFSTED; this includes pre-school, after school club staff, au pairs, child minders, nannies, and nursery workers. Please note that this course meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
The course covers the following areas;
- Role of the paediatric First Aider
- Accident reporting and first aid box contents
- Emergency Action Planning/Casualty Action Plans
- Infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation CPR (birth – 1yr old)
- Child cardiopulmonary resuscitation CPR (1yr – puberty)
- Adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation CPR (puberty onwards)
- Dealing with an unconscious casualty & the recovery position
- Infant, child and adult choking
- Epilepsy, Asthma, diabetes and sickle cell
- Anaphylactic shock
- Electric Shock
- Insulation and shelter – with relevance to the working environment
- Common medical problems – includes angina/conscious heart attack, asthma, diabetes, epilepsy (fitting), faints, anaphylaxis and stroke
- Head, neck and back Injuries
- Bleeding and shock
- Burns & scalds
- Fractures
- Poisoning
- Bites and stings
- Foreign bodies in eyes, ears & noses
- Eye injuries
- Meningitis & sudden illness
- Effects of heat and cold
- Febrile convulsions
